It’s the most wonderful time of the year……almost :). The snow flying, the sparkle of Christmas tree lights, and the feeling of goodwill from everyone. It is just such a lovely time of year. But with all the beauty and fun that Christmas time can bring….it can also bring a little bit of stress. One of the biggest stressors being, “what/where should I go to buy gifts for my family and friends”. We can help take the stress out of that question! We are going to share with you our favorite places in west Michigan to go shopping and, even better than the shopping,…..where to stop and grab a really good cup of coffee and a snack.
Ok. We love shopping on Wealthy St. It is a neighborhood that has been growing over the last couple of years and is the home to quite a few really great local businesses. Plus there are a ton of great coffee shops to stop at (Sparrows, Rowster, Squibb). My favorite (and most unique) place to stop has to be Outside Coffee Company. Thank you Woosah for this fun outdoor hangout. This coffee shop is so cute and their drinks are delicious. And to make it even better….they are open 7 days a week, all year long,! How do they manage this? With their adorable light up outdoor igloos. You can cozy up in one of the igloos they have on site and enjoy any of the tasty gluten free pastry options from Rise. The coffee shop is a cute little aqua and white vintage trailer. The barista team is packed into it and they are working non-stop to make delicious coffee creations. They are dog friendly so bring your four legged friends along. Once you get your cup of coffee and pastry, walk the streets to stop at some great local stores: Woosah, Lee + Birch, Art of the Table, Dime and Regal, Rebel Reclaimed, and so many more.
Ok so our coffee stop choice is a classic that needs no explanation since their reputation precedes them: Starbucks. Starbucks is the iconic coffee shop with delicious seasonal favorites and snacks. Their menu has options that are a wide variety to please everyone (even the non coffee lovers). There are two locations in the Breton Village that you can chose from. There is one located in the D+W Fresh Market (our personal favorite because we love to get fresh yogurt with berries on top from the yogurt bar to enjoy with our cup of joe). The second location is a stand alone store located next door to Sur La Table. Breton Village is a cute little shopping area with great restaurants (Core Life Eatery, The Omelette Shop, and Houlihans) and excellent shopping. We absolutely adore the shopping in Breton Village. Some of our favorite stores in the area are anthropologie, JB+Me, West Elm, Orvis, free people, lululemon, and Mason Jones. There are even more stores coming into this location with their recent expansion! Definitely a place to go to on your Christmas shopping adventure.
The downtown area of Zeeland Michigan has been growing and growing over the last few years. Quite a few new local businesses have started moving into the area making downtown Zeeland an excellent place for shopping and dining out. Drip Coffee Shop is a quiet shop with an amazing atmosphere and delicious menu. The coffee they serve is another local favorite, Madcap coffee. The pastries and treats are from Nantucket Bakery located in Grand Rapids (they even have gluten free options). One of my mom’s personal favorites is the open-faced toast. They have a variety of options ranging from savory to sweet. Once you’ve stopped in for your coffee and treats make sure to shop around downtown! Some of our favorite stores include The Porch, Gigi’s Traveling Boutique, Don’s Flowers, and Out of the Box.
Jenison and Hudsonville
We recently moved to Jenison and have been branching out finding shops and coffee spots around the area. One coffee shop I recently had the chance to stop at in Hudsonville was Signatures Coffee and Espresso. The atmosphere is so cozy and the menu has tons of variety. They have a ton of coffee drinks to choose from and a menu that includes salads, sandwiches, soups and treats. I throughly enjoyed my non-fat latte and can’t wait to go back and try more options on the menu. Not too far away from Signatures is the town of Hudsonville. There are several cute shops to check out while you are in the area. We love the Found Cottage, The Painted Farmgirl, Lou + Marie, and the market events at the Terra Square Farmers Market.
The 205 Coffee Bar is located just off of 8th St. in downtown Holland. This coffee shop has such a laid back minimalist interior. It is hard to miss this place when you’re walking by because of the beautiful murals painted on both sides of the building. They have an excellent variety of coffee options and even Nitro Brew, Kombucha….and cocktails and beer on tap! They also offer delicious pastries from Deboer Bakkerij and cocktail sides like charcuterie and nuts. This is such a fun and unique place you have to make time to stop and check out. Down the street from 205 Coffee Bar are some of our favorite stores of downtown Holland. Make sure to walk the streets and check out The Apothecary Gift Shop, Blu Veranda, Frances Jaye, Home and Company, JB and Me, Outpost, Spring Sweet, and Karla’s Place.
We hope you enjoyed our favorites list and wish you all happy shopping and sipping! We also thank you for choosing to shop local. Many of the stores and businesses we listed are independently owned. Shopping small not only helps the families that own the store, but also helps to give back to your community. So this holiday season be sure to support small business!
